Geek Week: Local is a week-long hackathon organized by the GeeksforGeeks VIT Bhopal Community. It involves creating hacks, solving daily and weekly problems, and profile building. The most awaited and fun-filled event, perfect for Newbie Geeks who want to explore the fields of Computer Science-AI and build a network, or for Pro Geeks who want to showcase their Geeky-ness.

What’s in Geek Week: Local?

Geek Week is based on Guild-Building and a Healthy-Learning Environment, providing the Covid-19 struck batch, a golden opportunity to communicate, connect and make like-minded friends virtually. The event comprises challenges based on several skills, not necessarily coding. You don’t have to be a Pro-Coder to take part. Although there will be hard problems, that shall not stop you from participating. Geek-Week focuses on overall technical development and so, challenges like technical profile building, designing a logo for your guild, interacting with your guild members, and even sharing virtual tea with them are also on the challenge list for the event.

The more challenges you solve, the more points you get. Everyone scoring above a certain number of points will receive prizes, instead of just the top 3 or top 10 Geeks, to ensure that it’s more like a healthy-learning event rather than a coding competition. At the end of the event, you’ll be rewarded based on individual and your guild points.

Who made it possible?

The core team at the GFG VIT Bhopal community has been working day and night to make the event possible. Volunteers were selected and interviewed so they can contribute to the event through their skills too. I happen to be one of the Volunteers from the design team. Volunteers, the Doubt Clearing team, Core Team, moderators, and Team Leads left no stone unturned to clear every single doubt geeks had. They made sure no one’s facing issues in registering and that everyone’s at the same energy level throughout the registration process.

Guild Leaders formed guilds and promoted them in their unique ways. Some were encouraged through motivational quotes while others took memes as their tool. By the end of Guild registration, We could witness every kind of Guild. Each guild had a diversity of members, from competitive coders to open source enthusiasts, from developers to designers, you name a field and you’ll easily find one member in each guild who has done something significant in that field.

Not only does this make Geek Week the most diverse event I have personally attended, but has also opened a gateway to even more team-based events for the GFG VIT Bhopal community.

Geek Week: Local has started and individual registrations are open till the end of the event, i.e. 21 March 2021.
